Flower Mound will host a Diwali celebration Saturday, Oct. 24, at Gerault Park Fields, bringing dance performances, Indian street food and vendor booths to the community.

The Denton County India Cultural Association (DCICA), a North Texas group dedicated to preserving Indian cultural heritage, is partnering with the Town of Flower Mound on the event. The festival runs from 4 to 9 p.m. at 1116 Gerault Rd., according to a town civic alert posted Oct. 17.

Diwali is a traditional Indian holiday that celebrates the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. The Gerault Park event will give residents a chance to experience the holiday through live dance, food from Indian vendors and a marketplace of booths.

The celebration marks a collaboration between the town's parks and events operation and DCICA, which works to bring Indian festivals and community service efforts to Denton County. Specific performers and vendors have not been announced.

Flower Mound Mayor Cheryl Moore highlighted the Diwali festival in her October mayor's message published by the Cross Timbers Gazette. Moore listed the event as the capstone of a busy month of fall programming across town.

The town has packed October with outdoor events. Woof-O-Ween, a Halloween costume contest for dogs, takes place Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hound Mound Dog Park, 1200 Garden Ridge Rd. Owners can enter their pets in a doggy fashion show, and the evening includes treats, prizes and music.

Gerault Park itself has been a hub of activity this fall. The Community Activity Center sits on the same Gerault Road corridor, and the park fields give the town a large outdoor venue for gatherings like the Diwali festival.

Admission details have not been listed in the town's announcement.
