Denton County burn ban carries $500 fines amid wildfire threat

Denton County Commissioners Court voted Tuesday to impose an immediate countywide burn ban with fines up to $500, citing 30-plus days without rain, extreme heat and growing wildfire threats including the 50,000-acre Ross Wildfire whose smoke could reach Flower Mound and Highland Village.

Denton County ESD sets call-volume record as heat, fire risk climb

Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1 & 2 logged 473 calls in July 2026, a new monthly record that topped the previous high set in December 2025, as extreme heat and fire danger continue across unincorporated areas near Flower Mound and Highland Village.
