Registration fees for Flower Mound's Dorothy's Dash 5K rise after Saturday, Oct. 31, giving runners through Halloween to lock in lower prices for the Saturday, Nov. 7, race at Bakersfield Park.
The annual 5K Run/Walk and Kid's K, now in its 22nd year, honors Dorothy Walkup, a former Town of Flower Mound employee and track and field participant who died of multiple sclerosis on Nov. 16, 2004, after a seven-year fight with the disease. Net proceeds benefit the Texas Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society in her memory.
The town's race page still describes Walkup as a friend, mentor and source of support for colleagues who knew her.
Through Oct. 31, the 5K costs $30. On Sunday, Nov. 1, it rises to $35. The Kid's K follows the same pattern: $15 through Oct. 31, then $20 through race day.
Groups of ten or more can register at $25 per person through Oct. 31 by emailing town employee Charon Cheatham at [email protected]. That group rate disappears in November, according to The Flower Mound Bee.
Online registration closes Monday, Nov. 2, at 11:59 p.m. Runners can also sign up in person at the Community Activity Center, 1200 Gerault Road, or on-site at Bakersfield Park starting at 7 a.m. on race morning.
Packet pickup runs Thursday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 10 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 6, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Community Activity Center. Packets are also available race morning at Bakersfield Park, 1201 Duncan Lane.
The Kid's K starts at 8 a.m. The 5K Run/Walk follows at 8:30 a.m. Music, refreshments and awards come after the race. Every Kid's K participant receives a medal, and the town awards prizes to the top male and female 5K finishers and the top three in each age group.
Cafe Smile & Vitality Studio is the presenting sponsor. Businesses interested in sponsoring or vending can call 972.874.6276 or email Kimberly Cheek at [email protected].
