A half-mile silent walk honoring lives lost to suicide returns to Flower Mound for its 20th year on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Touched by Suicide North Texas, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run by volunteers across the region, hosts the Reflection and Remembrance Walk at the Heritage Park Amphitheater, 600 Spinks Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The event is open to anyone grieving a loved one.

The milestone comes as Denton County confronts rising suicide numbers. The nonprofit reported that 92 suicides were confirmed in the county in 2025. As of mid-August 2026, 49 deaths had already been confirmed this year, as Micah Pearce first reported for the Cross Timbers Gazette. Statewide, Texas lost 4,368 people to suicide in 2022, according to the organization.

The group said people who have lost someone to suicide are between two and 10 times more likely to take their own lives. It described peer support from others who share that experience as the most critical recovery resource available.

Sunday's walk begins with a silent procession, followed by remarks from a guest speaker. Attendees can build a take-home self-care kit, add to a grief and memory board, and share a written message for a loved one.

The walk is not a fundraiser. Registration is required by Friday, Sept. 25, and scholarships are available so cost does not prevent anyone from attending. Donations help cover registration for those who cannot afford it. Registration is open at touchedbysuicide.net.

Beyond the annual walk, Touched by Suicide North Texas provides free monthly support groups for adults and teens in Denton, Flower Mound and Southlake. The Flower Mound group meets the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5500 Morriss Road. The organization can be reached at 469-968-7161 or [email protected].
