Flower Mound teens can learn hands-only CPR and hear about the dangers of distracted driving at a Thursday, Oct. 15, session at Flower Mound Municipal Court.

The session runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 4150 Kirkpatrick Lane. Lewisville EMS Captain Jon Whitener will lead an interactive presentation covering distracted driving, speeding and the long-term effects of crash-related injuries, according to the town’s announcement.

Participants will also learn hands-only CPR. The instruction is informational and does not provide official CPR certification, according to Lewisville’s event listing.

The event is part of Teen Talks, a monthly program presented through Flower Mound Municipal Court, Lewisville Municipal Court and Lewisville-Flower Mound Youth Services. Sessions use presentations, videos and guided discussions to explore issues involving young people, safety and the law.

The series launched Sept. 17 at Lewisville Municipal Court with “Youth Empowerment: Recognizing Abuse and Protecting Yourself,” led by Lewisville Police Detective Liz Rollins.

Community service credit

All teens are welcome, and parents or guardians may attend.

Flower Mound’s program page lists community service credit tiers of two hours for attending, four hours for attending with one parent or guardian, and six hours for attending with two parents or guardians, a parent or guardian and a sibling, or a teen friend who is not receiving credit.

Lewisville’s announcement identifies additional credit as available to eligible Teen Court and Diversion participants. Teens should confirm that the hours will satisfy their particular requirements.
