Braswell scored 19 unanswered points in the fourth quarter Friday, Oct. 16, turning a five-point game into a 38-14 rout that dropped Marcus to 0-4 in District 5-6A play.
The Marauders (2-5, 0-4) struck first. Senior quarterback Cash Davis connected with junior tight end Berr Kogler on a 6-yard touchdown pass to grab an early lead. But Braswell answered with 12 unanswered points across the first and second quarters to carry a 12-7 advantage into halftime, according to the Cross Timbers Gazette.
The Bengals extended their lead with a third-quarter touchdown. Senior running back Drew Emmert then punched in a 3-yard scoring run with less than two minutes left in the period to pull Marcus within 19-14.
That was as close as the Marauders would get.
Chris Lark broke a 15-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to push Braswell's lead to 25-14 after a missed extra point, the Denton Record-Chronicle reported. Ivory Marshall then blocked a Marcus punt and recovered it in the end zone, making it 32-14 with 10:03 remaining. Zahir Trufant capped the scoring with a 1-yard rushing touchdown.
Emmert was the bright spot for Marcus, finishing with 186 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The loss extends Marcus's losing streak to four games, all in district play. The Marauders opened the season 2-1 with wins over Northwest (41-38 in overtime) and Pearce (45-14) but have been outscored 183-49 across their four district contests, according to MaxPreps.
The 0-4 district mark leaves Marcus in last place in District 5-6A with three games remaining. At the top, Braswell (6-1, 3-1), Guyer (5-2, 3-1), Flower Mound (6-1, 3-1), and Hebron (4-3, 3-1) are tied at 3-1, according to the Denton Record-Chronicle. At least one of those four teams will miss the playoffs.
Coach Mike Alexander struck a more optimistic tone in an August preseason preview, saying the Marauders aimed to convert 2025's close losses into wins: "We must eliminate self-inflicted errors and find a way to win those one-score games."
Instead, the district losses have been lopsided. Marcus fell 40-7 at Lewisville, 56-28 to Hebron, 49-0 at Flower Mound and 38-14 to Braswell.
Marcus travels to Little Elm on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m., then visits Guyer on Oct. 30 before closing the regular season at home against Wakeland on Nov. 5.
