Republican April Farris faces Democrat Marc M. Meyer in the Nov. 3, 2026, election for Place 3 on Texas’s 15th Court of Appeals, according to the state’s certified ballot. The race is statewide.
Background
Farris joined the court in September 2024 after serving on the 1st Court of Appeals, where she was appointed in 2021 and elected in 2022, according to her official judicial biography.
She previously practiced appellate law at Yetter Coleman and served as a Texas assistant solicitor general. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian University in 2006 and a law degree from Harvard in 2009.
Judicial approach
On her campaign website, Farris says judges should apply the law as written, avoid substituting personal policy preferences and provide impartial hearings. Those statements describe her judicial philosophy rather than a commitment to a particular outcome in a pending case.
What the court does
The Austin-based court has statewide civil appellate jurisdiction, including specified cases involving state government and appeals from Texas Business Courts. Its role is distinct from the criminal appeals courts.
Its decisions can affect residents and businesses involved in litigation over state government action and qualifying commercial disputes. Justices decide appeals; they do not enact legislation or set local taxes.
