Charice Cooper spent years in the corporate finance world before her paintbrushes pulled her back.

Now the Flower Mound resident's wildlife paintings line the art display wall at Town Hall, 2121 Cross Timbers Rd., where they'll remain through the end of September. The exhibition is free and open to the public during regular business hours.

Cooper, who was born and raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, grew up in a musical and artistic family where creativity was encouraged early. Animals and art were her deepest childhood passions. But she wound up spending years at a financial institution, her brushes untouched.

"As the stress mounted, I began to seek refuge in my art," Cooper writes on her artist biography page. In 2000, a year after picking up her brushes again, she left corporate work to paint full time.

She hasn't looked back.

Cooper has worked as a full-time artist for more than 25 years, painting primarily in oil. She describes her style as contemporary realism with frequent impressionist touches. Her subjects span murals, portraits and commissioned pieces, but she always gravitates back to animals.

That's no accident. Cooper lives on a farm with her family and a menagerie of animals, which she says gives her hands-on understanding of animal anatomy, behavior and movement that she transfers to canvas. She identifies as a wildlife conservation artist and uses her paintings as a catalyst for conservation awareness.

The Town Hall display is part of Flower Mound's Art Display Walls program, which rotates local artists' two-dimensional work through spaces at Town Hall, the Senior Center, the Public Library and the Community Activity Center. All artwork is reviewed and approved by the Art Selection Committee, made up of Town staff and Cultural Arts Commission members, according to the town's program page.

The town announced the exhibition on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
