Chinn Chapel Soccer Complex is getting a synthetic turf field, and fall-league families will want to check before they show up.
Field 5 at the complex, at 100 Chinn Chapel Rd., has been closed since construction began in August. The $1.5 million conversion will replace the grass surface with synthetic turf built to handle soccer, football and lacrosse, the Cross Timbers Gazette reported.
The town's civic alert posted Aug. 23 said the work was expected to be complete in early October. As of Thursday, Oct. 8, no official reopening announcement had been made. Families with players in fall leagues can call Flower Mound Parks and Recreation at 972-874-6271 or check flowermound.gov to confirm their practice location.
The project goes beyond the playing surface. The scope includes a new scoreboard, goalposts, fencing, landscaping, drainage improvements and netting to keep balls from reaching spectators, according to the Cross Timbers Gazette.
Town Council awarded the construction bid to Paragon Sports Constructors on June 15, 2026. The town said the contractor has worked on fields across Lewisville ISD campuses.
Why synthetic turf?
Town documents cited by the Cross Timbers Gazette lay out three goals for the switch: eliminating weather-related game cancellations, keeping the field available year-round for local leagues and cutting the town's water use and maintenance costs.
The complex, built in 2005, saw a drainage project in 2023 that closed it for more than a month.
Bond backstory
The conversion is one of the first projects delivered under the town's 2025 bond program. Voters approved the $82 million Proposition A on May 3, 2025, funding parks, trails, sports fields and an expansion of the Community Activity Center. A separate $30 million Proposition B covered street improvements.
It was Flower Mound's first successful bond election since 2002, when voters funded construction of the Community Activity Center and several athletic fields. The town said it does not expect the current tax rate to increase because of either proposition.
CEI Engineering Associates designed the field conversion under an $89,445 agreement approved by Town Council in October 2025.
Field 5 is the only field at the complex included in the conversion project.
