Two Rotary clubs that share a Flower Mound-area restaurant as home base are leaning into the afterglow of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to recruit new members.

The Flower Mound Rotary Club, led by president Benjamin Hart, and the Highland Village/Lewisville Area Rotary Club, led by president Lisa Mehl, both meet Thursdays at Salerno's Italian Restaurant at Highland Village Road and FM 407. Flower Mound Rotary gathers from noon to 1 p.m.; the Highland Village/Lewisville club meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The pitch is simple: get involved.

The recruitment drive aligns with Rotary District 5790's new theme for the 2026–27 year: "Get in the Game." District Governor Angie Cox chose the slogan as the Rotary year began in July, a nod to the World Cup energy that swept North Texas during the tournament's June and July matches.

"If you enjoyed the fellowship and excitement of the World Cup, you'll appreciate the fellowship of Rotary," Rotarian Candy Wade wrote in an Aug. 6 Cross Timbers Gazette column. "It's a chance to meet new people while serving your community and making a difference around the world."

Both clubs stay busy between meetings. The Flower Mound Rotary Club hosts the annual Reindeer Run 5K each December at Bakersfield Park on Duncan Lane, directing 100% of race proceeds to local and international charity. The club also runs the IMPACT Club of Southern Denton County, a community giving initiative.

The Highland Village/Lewisville Area Rotary Club, formed by a merger of the former Highland Village Rotary Club and Lewisville Morning Rotary, hosts "Taste Around the Village," a fundraiser with tickets starting at $60 and sponsorships at $250. The merged club described itself as "stronger together" in a Facebook announcement welcoming former Lewisville Morning member Mark Smith and outlining new service opportunities.

Both clubs were among the local Rotary organizations that co-sponsored the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce's Nonprofit of the Year luncheon, which honored the Cross Timbers Family YMCA, according to a July 28 announcement from the Highland Village Business Association.

Denton County has six Rotary clubs meeting on different days and times, giving residents flexibility to find a fit. Rotary International is the only service organization with a permanent office at the United Nations.
