Flower Mound residents will get their first chance to recycle yard waste curbside when a new two-week collection program begins Monday, Nov. 30.
Republic Services will pick up brush, leaves, grass clippings, weeds and other yard debris for recycling through Friday, Dec. 11, according to a town announcement. The collected material can be processed into compost and mulch instead of going to a landfill.
The program grew out of a new contract between the town and Republic Services that took effect Oct. 1. The town plans to run the recycling collection twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, though spring 2027 dates have not been announced.
What residents need to know
Green waste goes out on regular trash and recycling days during the Nov. 30–Dec. 11 window. Residents must bag it in paper lawn bags or place it in a personal, reusable container labeled "Green Waste," according to the town's green waste program page. The container does not need to come from Republic Services.
Tree limbs must be cut to four feet or shorter and tied into bundles under 50 pounds.
Bulk trash will not be collected during the two-week recycling period. That means no furniture, appliances or extra trash bags at the curb. Regular bulk pickup resumes Monday, Dec. 14.
Options for bulk trash during the pause
Residents stuck with bulk items between Nov. 30 and Dec. 11 have three choices:
- Hold the items until Dec. 14.
- Haul up to 10 cubic yards to the Camelot Landfill at 580 Huffines Blvd. for free with proof of Flower Mound residency.
- Request a special pickup from Republic Services at $45 per hour by calling 817.317.2000.
Year-round recycling option
Outside the seasonal collection windows, yard waste still goes out with regular bulk trash but heads to the landfill rather than being recycled into compost or mulch. Residents who want to recycle year-round can drop off up to five cubic yards free at Living Earth, 3901 Haynes Rd., Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proof of residency is required, and waste must be in compostable bags, Kraft paper bags or a reusable container. No plastic bags.
The town said the recycling windows will shift each year based on foliage timing, seasonal yard work and weather events.
