A former Denton County detention officer faces a first-degree felony charge after his arrest on allegations of possessing child sexual abuse material with intent to promote it.

Richard Caleb Goodman, 43, was arrested Monday, Aug. 3, and booked into the Denton County Jail, according to jail records first reported by the Denton Record-Chronicle. Goodman had worked as a detention officer since 2023 and was terminated following the charge. The jail also houses inmates from across the county, including Flower Mound and Highland Village.

His bond was set at $100,000.

The investigation reportedly began after Dropbox flagged suspicious files to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, FOX 4 News reported. Investigators say additional files were allegedly discovered through search warrants of Goodman's online accounts.

Under Texas Penal Code § 43.26, possession with intent to promote child pornography is typically a second-degree felony but escalates to first-degree when aggravating factors are present, such as 10 or more depictions, material involving a child appearing to be under 10, or prior qualifying convictions. A first-degree conviction carries 5 to 99 years or life in prison and up to a $10,000 fine, plus lifetime sex offender registration. The specific aggravating factor in Goodman's case has not been publicly disclosed.

No official statement from the sheriff's office commenting on Goodman's arrest or the county's internal review has been released.

Goodman is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. No next court date has been publicly confirmed.
