Founders Classical Academy of Flower Mound has won the Best of Denton County award in the charter school category for the seventh time, the school announced Thursday, Aug. 27.
The K–12 tuition-free public charter school at 4901 Cross Timbers Rd. enrolls 949 students under Headmaster Gene Holloway. The announcement came as the campus opened its 2026–2027 school year.
The school said in a statement on its website that the award recognizes its faculty, staff, students and parent community. The statement thanked families for their continued trust and support heading into the new year.
Seven wins is the longest streak in the charter school category.
How the voting works
The Best of Denton County program announced its 2026 winners on Wednesday, Aug. 26, capping a months-long public vote. Residents nominated schools, businesses and organizations between June 3 and July 1. A second round of voting among the top three finalists in each category ran July 15 through Aug. 12.
The program, headquartered at 3513 Yucca Dr. in Flower Mound, covers dozens of categories across education, dining, health care and services. Founders Classical Academy took the charter school slot on the education page.
Confirmed wins and what's unconfirmed
Public records on the school's website confirm individual Best of Denton County wins in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. The school's own announcement describes the 2026 honor as its seventh overall, but individual announcements for years before 2023 were not found in available records.
Other recent recognition
The academy also earned a spot among the top 20 schools nationally in the Classic Learning Test's (CLT) 2025 CLT10 School Rankings. That honor, announced in January 2025, recognized Founders Classical Academy students for collectively posting one of the highest average CLT10 scores in the country during the 2023–2024 academic year.
Founders Classical Academy operates under the Responsive Education Solutions charter network, based in Lewisville. The network also goes by Texas College Preparatory Academies.
The Best of Denton County program has not announced dates for its 2027 cycle.
