Flower Mound and Highland Village commuters who use the I-35E express lanes through Lewisville will need to find another way starting Friday night, Aug. 7.

The Texas Department of Transportation is closing both the northbound and southbound express lanes between Swisher Road and Main Street at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, for surface maintenance. The lanes will stay shut until 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, spanning the full Monday-through-Thursday commute week.

The I-35E main lanes will remain open.

A TxDOT public information officer told the Denton Record-Chronicle the work is routine and not tied to a specific construction project. TxDOT advised drivers to plan ahead for extra travel time in the corridor.

What it means for local drivers

The Swisher Road-to-Main Street segment sits on the key north-south route many Flower Mound and Highland Village residents take daily to reach jobs and services across the Dallas–Fort Worth metro. Without the express option during the Aug. 11 through Aug. 14 work week, traffic will shift to the I-35E frontage roads.

Drivers looking for alternatives may consider FM 2499, FM 407 or US 377, which run parallel to I-35E through the area. Those routes offer parallel paths but are not officially designated detours.
