A kitchen fire forced The Argyle Social to close Tuesday, Aug. 11, just 13 days after the new American tavern opened its doors in Argyle.
No one was injured.
Co-owners Scott and Jenn Sharrer, who also run Sip + Savor at 1201 Shoal Creek in Highland Village, said they are assessing the damage and have not set a reopening date.
First responders arrived at the restaurant, located at 427 S. US-377 at the corner of FM-407, shortly before 2 p.m. after reports of smoke coming from stainless steel panels in the kitchen, according to the Cross Timbers Gazette. The building was evacuated. Crews found a light haze inside, accessed the heat source through a wall and determined the blaze was contained without spreading.
In a Facebook post that evening, the restaurant said everyone was safe and asked the community for prayers as the owners navigate next steps. The following day, Wednesday, Aug. 12, the restaurant acknowledged the difficulty of opening a new business and facing a fire within two weeks but said it planned to come back stronger than ever.
The Sharrers opened The Argyle Social on July 29 after partnering with the original owners of Earl and Isabella's Taverna, the Italian restaurant that occupied the historic former Argyle fire station building for roughly a decade. Earl and Isabella's closed July 26, and the Sharrers transformed the space into what they described as a high-quality but comfortable American-style tavern.
Scott and Jenn Sharrer announced the partnership in early July on social media. The couple also operates Sip + Savor, a chef-driven restaurant near The Shops at Highland Village offering brunch, lunch and dinner.
The Argyle Social sits within Argyle's proposed walkable town center district, a corridor the town is actively developing around a new Main Street project. The restaurant had drawn early praise from diners during its brief run.
The Sharrers said they will announce a reopening date on The Argyle Social's Facebook page once the damage assessment is complete. The cause of the fire has not been officially stated.
