The new turf baseball and softball fields at Flower Mound and Marcus high schools are now officially done on paper, too.

The Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees, led by President Allison Lassahn, approved final completion and authorized the last retainage payment for the turf conversion at its Monday, Aug. 10, regular meeting, according to the meeting agenda. The item passed on the consent agenda, closing out a project estimated at $15.1 million in procurement documents.

Athletes at both campuses already broke in the surfaces during the spring 2026 season. The board's action formally wraps up the 2024 Bond project two days before the 2026-27 school year opens Wednesday, Aug. 12, and fall workouts begin.

What the turf fixes

The upgrade addresses years of weather-related disruptions. According to 2024 bond campaign materials, LISD baseball and softball programs missed roughly 40% of scheduled practices during the 2023 season because of field flooding. Home games were frequently relocated to opponents' or neighboring districts' facilities.

Coaches, athletes and parent volunteers had been spending about 20 hours per week during the season maintaining the old grass surfaces, including daily watering, dragging, raking, edging and chalking.

Bond materials cite studies showing synthetic turf more than triples available playing time compared to natural grass and project savings of $30,000 to $50,000 per year in maintenance costs. The surfaces also eliminate the need for irrigation systems, fertilizers, pesticides and mowing equipment.

Funded by voters

LISD voters approved the 2024 bond referendum on May 4, 2024. Proposition B, which covered athletics and recreation facilities, totaled $65.6 million. The turf fields were among its headline items.

The project, designated CSP #3311-25, converted natural-grass baseball and softball fields at both campuses to synthetic turf and added new locker rooms at Flower Mound's baseball and softball facilities and at Marcus baseball. Construction began Feb. 28, 2025, with Paragon Sports Constructors as the general contractor.

Lewisville ISD showcased the finished fields on X on March 3, crediting bond voters and Paragon for surfaces that "look amazing."

What's next

With the project officially complete, Flower Mound Jaguar and Marcus Marauder players head into fall workouts this week. The Jaguars' softball program enters the 2027 spring season coming off a UIL state-level run recognized by the LISD board in June.
