Flower Mound will hold a remembrance ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks at Marcus High School's football stadium on Friday, Sept. 11.
The ceremony begins at 9:11 a.m. and is free and open to the public. The stadium is at 5707 Morriss Rd.
Six organizations are co-hosting the event: the Marcus High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AFJROTC), Flower Mound Fire Department, Flower Mound Police Department, Highland Village Fire Department, Lewisville Independent School District (LISD) and the Town of Flower Mound. The town's announcement described the ceremony as dedicated to those who lost their lives and the first responders who answered the call that morning in 2001.
The program will include brief remarks from AFJROTC representatives and elected officials, a flag ceremony, and performances of the National Anthem and taps by the Marcus Band. The town's announcement listed elected officials among the scheduled speakers but did not name them.
Students at Marcus High School will have a chance to show their support as well. The school declared Friday a Patriotic Spirit Day on X, encouraging students to wear red, white and blue to school.
This year's ceremony moves to Marcus Stadium after last year's observance was held at Flower Mound High School's football stadium. That 2025 event, reported by the Cross Timbers Gazette, started at 7:30 a.m. and included a 2,200-step stair climb representing the stairs first responders climbed in the Twin Towers. It also featured a 3.43-mile run/walk honoring the 343 firefighters who died during the attack and rescue efforts. The 2026 announcement does not mention a stair climb or run/walk.
Gates at Marcus Stadium open to the public before the 9:11 a.m. start. No registration is required.
