The Town of Flower Mound announced its annual Veterans Day Ceremony will take place Nov. 8 at Flower Mound High School Football Stadium, 3411 Peters Colony Rd.

A family picnic kicks off the afternoon from 1 to 2 p.m. with free hot dogs, cake and lemonade, according to the town's event calendar. The ceremony follows at 2 p.m.

The afternoon's centerpiece is a veterans review. Local Boy Scout troops, Girl Scout troops and ROTC units will parade in uniform before the veterans in attendance. The ceremony also includes remarks from local leaders and patriotic music, according to a town announcement.

Scout groups and ROTC units that want to join the review can sign up by calling 972.874.6291.

Flag relay also returning

Flower Mound's Veterans Day Relay Run, a 32-mile flag-carrying tradition running every November since 2014, is also back. Volunteer runners each cover roughly one to two miles, passing an American flag at handoff points along a course that starts and ends at the Flower Mound Community Activity Center. The Flower Mound Bee reported in September that applications were open at flowermound.gov/relay, though past deadlines have fallen between late September and mid-October.

Participation in the relay is free.
