Lewisville scored 14 points in the final 91 seconds to beat Flower Mound 28-18 on Friday, Oct. 23, denying the Jaguars a victory over District 5-6A’s first-place team.
The comeback at Neal E. Wilson Jaguar Stadium dropped Flower Mound to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in district play. Lewisville improved to 5-0 in district, according to MaxPreps.
Junior quarterback Laykon Brassfield accounted for two touchdowns in his return to Lewisville’s lineup, the Lewisville Leader reported.
Brassfield had missed four games during a residency dispute. On Thursday, Oct. 22, the University Interscholastic League’s state executive committee voted 6-0 to restore his eligibility, reversing a Sept. 25 decision by the district executive committee, according to the Leader’s coverage of the ruling.
“The primary concern was residency. We love Lewisville,” his father, Jonathan Brassfield, told NBC 5.
The Farmers won all four district games during Brassfield’s absence. Their listed overall record is 5-3 because MaxPreps continues to record their opening three nondistrict games against Highland Park, Trophy Club Byron Nelson and Denton Ryan as forfeiture losses.
Flower Mound entered Friday with three consecutive victories, including a 48-21 win at Frisco Wakeland on Oct. 16. Lewisville was coming off a 37-3 victory over Hebron.
The matchup received extensive coverage on NBC 5’s Big Game Friday. Elsewhere in the district Friday, Denton Guyer defeated Hebron 48-6.
Flower Mound now faces two remaining district games. The Jaguars visit Hebron at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Brian Brazil Stadium, then host Guyer at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, according to the team’s schedule.
