Flower Mound voters will decide Tuesday, Nov. 3, whether to renew a quarter-cent sales tax that funds street repairs, reconstruction and maintenance crews.

Proposition A would extend the Street Maintenance Dedicated Sales Tax for four years. Approval would keep the town’s combined sales tax rate at 8.25%. Rejection would reduce it to 8%, according to the town’s election page.

If the measure fails, the Town Council would need alternative funding to retain the projects and personnel currently supported by the tax.

Early voting ended Oct. 30. Election Day polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

What the tax supports

The tax pays for pothole patching, concrete panel replacement, asphalt overlays, alley repairs, crack sealing, snow and ice removal, and full-depth pavement reconstruction. It also supports the employees who perform that work.

Since the last renewal in 2022, $19.8 million has supported maintenance, reconstruction, personnel and 16 major street projects, according to the town’s street maintenance page.

Those projects include Colonial Drive reconstruction, Timber Creek Road panel replacement, Wood Creek Circle reconstruction and work on Timber Valley Drive and Fairfield Lane.

The town estimated the tax would contribute $4.6 million to the Street Reconstruction Fund during fiscal year 2025–26.

A separate funding source also supports street improvements. In May 2025, voters approved a $30 million street bond proposition. Both the sales tax and bond program support reconstruction work.

Renewal history

Voters first approved the street tax in November 2007 alongside dedicated taxes for parks and recreation, crime control and fire control.

The street tax was renewed in 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2022. The town held the 2022 renewal early to combine it with crime and fire tax elections and save election costs, according to its sales tax history.

The parks tax does not require renewal. Voters approved 20-year extensions for the crime and fire taxes in 2022; those measures are separate from Tuesday’s street-tax question.
