A smash-room and splatter-paint franchise called iSmash is heading to The Marketplace at Highland Village after the city council approved a Conditional Use Permit for the business.
The 4,900-square-foot space will sit next to TJ Maxx in the shopping center near FM 2499 and FM 407, the Flower Mound Bee reported. At iSmash, guests suit up in protective gear and smash objects like glassware, electronics and printers inside dedicated rooms. The venue will also offer splatter painting, which skews younger and doubles as a birthday-party option. Age minimums at other iSmash locations start at three for splatter paint and eight for smash rooms, according to a company press release.
Mayor Charlotte Wilcox presides over the Highland Village City Council, which granted the permit. The approval clears the way for buildout, though no opening date has been announced.
The Marketplace is a 206,926-square-foot power center anchored by Walmart, LA Fitness, TJ Maxx and HomeGoods, according to property owner Sterling Organization. iSmash would add an experience-based tenant to a lineup that has leaned heavily toward retail.
The brand was founded in 2018 by Steven Shortino in Rochester, New York, and describes itself as the only franchised rage-room concept operating nationwide. It opened its first Texas location in Katy on May 23, 2026, and a Franchising.com press release from that month said the company expected roughly 40 new locations to open across the country in 2026. Shortino said demand for hands-on entertainment drove the brand's expansion into Texas.
No opening date has been set for the Highland Village location.
iSmash's Highland Village booking page was last updated Aug. 10, 2026, and going live for reservations will be the clearest sign the venue is ready for guests.
