Flower Mound will host Lewisville at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, in a District 5-6A football matchup that could feature the return of the Fighting Farmers’ original starting quarterback.
A University Interscholastic League state executive committee hearing scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22, will determine whether Laykon Brassfield can return to varsity competition, according to the Cross Timbers Gazette. If the ruling goes his way, the Flower Mound game would be his earliest opportunity to play.
Lewisville enters this week 3–3 overall and 3–0 in district. The Farmers won their first six games on the field but forfeited their three non-district victories after Brassfield was ruled ineligible over a residency dispute.
Before traveling to Flower Mound, Lewisville hosts Hebron on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. Both teams enter that matchup unbeaten in district play, according to the Lewisville schedule and VYPE.
Quarterback appeal remains unresolved
Brassfield transferred from Edmond North in Oklahoma before the season and threw 14 touchdowns in Lewisville’s first three games, Sports Illustrated reported.
The district executive committee ruled Sept. 25 that he did not meet the UIL’s bona fide residence requirements. The committee determined that his transfer was not for athletic purposes, according to the Gazette.
His family has said they live in an apartment within Lewisville High School’s attendance boundary and helped a grandparent with a lease on a property in the Argyle ISD attendance zone.
The three forfeited victories could be reinstated if Brassfield is ruled eligible, the Gazette reported.
Lewisville wins without Brassfield
With Aiden Evans at quarterback, Lewisville has beaten Marcus, Frisco Wakeland and Denton Guyer in consecutive district games.
The Farmers’ latest victory was a 42–7 home win over Guyer on Friday, Oct. 9, with touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams.
Evans, a Sam Houston State safety commit, opened the scoring with a 41-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Miles after an interception by Derrick Martin, according to Sports Illustrated’s game report.
Deuce Mathis then delivered three touchdowns. He threw a 63-yard scoring pass to Martin early in the second quarter and returned a punt 73 yards for another score.
Devin Robinson added a 37-yard interception return for a touchdown, helping Lewisville take a 28–7 halftime lead.
Evans connected with Landon Brazzell on a 15-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter. Mathis completed the scoring with a 68-yard punt return early in the fourth.
