Flower Mound and Marcus high school students return to class Wednesday, Aug. 12, with later start times, a new principal at Flower Mound High and a freshly reviewed academic plan guiding the year. The Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees discussed that plan and began mapping out next year's budget at its Monday, Aug. 10 meeting.

Trustees reviewed the 2026-27 District Improvement Plan, the annual document that sets academic and operational goals districtwide. The plan was listed as a discussion item, not a formal action item, according to the district's meeting recap. No vote was taken.

Specific goals, student-achievement targets and spending priorities within the plan have not been publicly released. Chief of Staff and Community Relations Dr. Shawna Miller had presented an earlier update on the plan's development at the June 8 board meeting, aligning it with LISD's long-range "Imagine 2030" framework.

The board also took its first look at the FY 2028 budget calendar under board policy CE (LOCAL), which governs the district's annual budget-building timeline. The review sets the schedule for crafting the 2027-28 fiscal year spending plan. A future workshop labeled "2027-28 Budget #1" appears on the board's meeting calendar, though no date has been set.

The more immediate budget milestone: a Special Board Meeting on Aug. 27 at 6 p.m., when trustees are scheduled to adopt the current FY 2027 budget and tax rate.

CFO Scott Wrehe presented the monthly financial report. Additional information items included a Pediplace health services update, a technology report, the updated employee handbook and the district's annual report on purchasing cooperative contracts.

Shannon Knowles, approved unanimously as Flower Mound High School's new principal in June, leads the campus into the new year under shifted hours of 8:50 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

The next regular board meeting is Sept. 14.
