Flower Mound families have a new middle school, and on Wednesday, Sept. 2, it gets its formal dedication.

Argyle ISD is holding a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for Scott Gibson Middle School at 5:30 p.m. at 750 FM 407 W, next to Cactus Canyon. The ceremony takes place in the main gym, with parking available in front of and behind the campus. Attendees can also tour the new building, according to the district's Facebook page.

The school is named for Scott Gibson, who served as principal of Argyle Middle School until his death in 2024. His favorite song, "Don't Stop Believin'," is painted on the gym wall where Wednesday's ceremony will be held. Argyle ISD shared that detail in a June sneak peek of the campus, noting Gibson often mentioned the song to students and staff.

The campus is not new to students. Classes started Aug. 11.

Gibson Middle School serves grades 7 and 8 and has a capacity of 1,200 students. Under attendance zones that took effect in fall 2026, seventh and eighth graders living west of US 377 are zoned to the FM 407 campus. Students east of US 377 attend Argyle Middle School. The board approved one adjustment: the Bonnie Brae Road and Vintage Boulevard neighborhoods feed into the eastern campus on US 377.

The campus was funded through Argyle ISD's 2022 bond. Construction Manager Jeff Koehn said in an April update that Gibson Middle School would open in August. A second campus on FM 407, Michael Ball Intermediate School for grades 5 and 6, is scheduled to open in the 2027-28 school year.

Argyle ISD serves more than 6,700 students and projects enrollment could exceed 11,000 by the 2033-34 school year. The district's 10-year strategic plan calls for eventually operating two middle schools and two high schools, according to Flower Mound Bee reporting.

The next new campus on FM 407, Michael Ball Intermediate, is set to welcome students in fall 2027.
