Nearly 200,000 Denton County voters had cast ballots through Sunday, Oct. 25, as early voting headed into its final week before the Nov. 3 general election.

The 198,459 ballots represented 28.84% of registered voters, placing Denton second by turnout percentage among Texas’ 10 largest counties, the Cross Timbers Gazette reported.

Early voting ends Friday, Oct. 30. Polling locations are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the remaining days.

For Flower Mound voters, the ballot includes whether to renew an existing sales tax dedicated to street maintenance and repairs. Reauthorization would keep the town’s current 8.25% sales-tax rate unchanged, according to the town’s election information.

Denton County’s early turnout was running about 60% ahead of the comparable point in the 2022 midterm election, though roughly 20% behind the 2024 presidential election pace, the Gazette reported.

David Rettig, victory chair of the Denton County Republican Party, told the newspaper that both major parties were encouraging supporters to vote earlier. He cautioned that the numbers alone do not establish how the election will turn out.

Statewide, nearly 4.5 million Texans had voted in person or by mail through Oct. 25, representing 23.4% of registered voters, according to the Texas Tribune.

Flower Mound residents registered in Denton County may vote at any early voting location in that county. Five are in town:

  • Denton County Southwest Courthouse, 6200 Canyon Falls Drive
  • Community Activity Center, 1200 Gerault Road
  • Municipal Court, 4150 Kirkpatrick Lane
  • Public Library, 3030 Broadmoor Lane
  • Senior Center, 2701 W. Windsor Drive

Flower Mound residents registered in Tarrant County must use Tarrant County voting locations.

The Gazette also reported that Bartonville and Justin voters will consider street-maintenance sales-tax renewals, while Double Oak voters will decide whether to allow alcoholic beverage sales.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Voters can check polling locations, sample ballots and registration information through Denton County Elections.
