Flower Mound's Post Oak Park off Flower Mound Road closed Sept. 1 for a renovation exceeding $1.1 million that will add the park's first restroom, a redesigned playground and all-concrete trails.

The project is expected to take about nine months, with a projected completion in late May 2027, according to a Town of Flower Mound notice. The upgrades follow recommendations in the town's 2017 Parks and Recreation Master Plan and are funded through 4B Sales Tax revenue.

Crews are adding new playground equipment with safety surfacing, a restroom facility near the park entrance, interpretive signage, improved drainage and enhanced trails.

Parkhill, the design firm behind the renovation, planned a berm-style playground with synthetic grass hills, ground-level equipment and a pair of tot swings, according to the Cross Timbers Gazette.

"We wanted to come up with something that is more engaging, but still natural in feel and fits into the aesthetic of Post Oak Park," Parkhill designer Landon Bell told the Gazette in April.

The restroom building will be a pre-manufactured structure with two family stalls, located near the park entrance. Existing gravel trail sections that had become overgrown or muddy will be replaced with concrete.

A pedestrian crossing over the creek near the back of the park will also be improved. LED lighting upgrades and drainage work round out the project. Bell told the Gazette the drainage improvements aim to reduce standing water and mosquitoes by introducing native plants as a drainage way.

Post Oak Park was originally named Skillern Park in 2001 and renamed in 2012. The Flower Mound Community Development Corporation approved 4B sales tax funding for the park's operation and maintenance by a 7-0 vote in March 2012.

The town has 58 parks, and all others remain open during the closure. Residents looking for a similar spot can head to Rheudasil Park, which has a playground and pond, according to the Flower Mound Bee. Anglers who fish the Post Oak Park pond can find stocked ponds at Parker Square Park and Spring Lake Park.
