Lewisville ISD has no formal, student-facing policy on artificial intelligence (AI) use in the classroom, and a Flower Mound High School student journalist is calling attention to the gap.

Elishka Hall, co-editor of the FMHS Wire, published an opinion piece Monday, Sept. 14, arguing that ChatGPT has made plagiarism nearly impossible to detect and is eroding the uniqueness of student writing. Hall wrote that AI generates text "to the most common denominator," producing passable work rather than original expression.

LISD does maintain an AI resource page, updated June 17, that lays out the district's philosophy on AI in education, with separate sections for staff, students and families. No district-wide, formal student AI policy appeared in publicly available materials as of Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Hall's piece noted the same gap. No LISD administrator or teacher was quoted in her article.

FMHS enrolled 3,426 students in the 2024-25 school year.
