Highland Village wants businesses and residents to help feed local veterans at the annual Salute Our Veterans Luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
The City of Highland Village and the Highland Village Business Association (HVBA) are seeking community sponsors to cover the cost of meals so every veteran and one guest can eat for free, according to the HVBA. Sponsorships start at $50, which covers two veterans' meals. Additional sponsorships are available in $25 increments: $100 covers four meals, $150 covers six.
The event has run every year since 2004. It typically draws more than 250 veterans representing all branches of service from Highland Village, Flower Mound, Lewisville and surrounding communities, Highland Village Mayor Charlotte Wilcox wrote in her September column in the Cross Timbers Gazette.
Wilcox described the luncheon in that column as a chance "to honor our local Veterans and offer them an opportunity for fellowship and camaraderie."
This year's event carries an added element. U.S. Rep. Brandon Gill plans to use the luncheon to present the Congressional Veteran Commendation to selected local veterans, according to Gill's congressional office. The commendation recognizes veterans in the district for their military service.
How to sponsor
The sponsorship deadline is Friday, Oct. 23. Sponsors can submit online at the HVBA's veterans page or by mail to 1000 Highland Village Road, Highland Village, TX 75077, with payments directed to "Salute Our Veterans Lunch." Veterans who want to attend can RSVP through the same website.
