Shannon Knowles has returned to Flower Mound High School as principal after two years leading Argyle High School.
Lewisville ISD announced her appointment June 8. Knowles brings 27 years of experience in public education, including seven years as Flower Mound’s associate principal.
In an Oct. 2 interview with the FMHS Wire, the school’s student newspaper, Knowles described the campus community as a reason for returning. She also discussed opportunities to strengthen academics while supporting students’ interests in athletics and the arts.
Experience across Texas schools
Knowles began teaching and coaching in 1999. Her career has included positions in Birdville, Coppell, Troup and Lewisville school districts.
She became Flower Mound’s associate principal in 2017. Her responsibilities included building the master schedule, supporting new assistant principals and supervising programs ranging from special education and languages to athletics, performing arts and student council.
Argyle ISD selected Knowles as its high school principal in March 2024. She succeeded retiring principal John King.
Knowles earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Midwestern State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Lamar University.
Academic goals and campus traditions
Knowles told the FMHS Wire she wants to learn from Coppell’s approach to National Merit recognition and explore ways to help more Flower Mound students succeed.
She described excellence more broadly as students doing their best in pursuits they enjoy.
The senior send-off remains her favorite campus tradition, according to the profile. Knowles said watching students finish high school brings both sadness at their departure and pride in their progress.
