Hebron beat Marcus 56-28 on Friday, Oct. 2, in a District 5-6A game that dropped the Marauders to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in district play.
Senior quarterback Cash Davis threw for 352 yards and four touchdowns in the loss, connecting with three different receivers for scores. Jameson Mayfield caught two of those touchdown passes, including a 90-yarder in the fourth quarter, and finished with 160 receiving yards. Caleb Steen hauled in a 24-yard scoring strike, and Knox Patterson added a 36-yard touchdown reception.
The numbers weren't enough. Hebron pulled away with a dominant second half to hand Marcus its second straight district loss after a 40-7 defeat at Lewisville on Sept. 25.
Davis's 352 passing yards ranked among the top Dallas-area individual performances for the week, and Mayfield's 160 receiving yards also earned area recognition, according to Yahoo Sports.
Marcus head coach Mike Alexander set the tone for 2026 when he spoke about the program's goals in an August preseason preview. "We must eliminate self-inflicted errors and find a way to win those one-score games," Alexander said Aug. 14. Two district blowout losses into the season, the Marauders need a turnaround fast.
The stage is the Battle of the Mound, the annual rivalry between the two Lewisville ISD schools. Marcus has won the last three meetings, including a 33-32 nail-biter in 2024, a 35-26 win in 2023 and a 30-21 victory in 2022, according to the Marcus football program's records.
Flower Mound enters at 4-1 overall and 1-1 in district after a 14-12 win over Little Elm on Oct. 2. At the top of District 5-6A, Denton Guyer and Lewisville both sit at 2-0 in district. Hebron improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in district with the win over Marcus.
Marcus visits Flower Mound at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, for the Battle of the Mound.
