Kelly Langdon is stepping away from the Marcus High School tennis program he built over a quarter century, leaving behind a 433-101 record, five USPTA Texas High School Coach of the Year awards, and a pipeline of players who went from grassroots beginners to state champions.

Langdon took over the Marauders program in 2001. By the time he walked off the courts at 2800 Dixon Lane for the last time as head coach, his teams had produced 32 individual district champions, 66 regional qualifiers, 13 state qualifiers, three state champions, and the National High School Coaches Association's Female Athlete of the Year.

The numbers speak for themselves.

"I'm very satisfied with my career," Langdon told the Cross Timbers Gazette in a profile published Friday, July 31. "It would be easy to just quantify success as wins, titles, awards, etc., but it's about your program's impact in the community, the relationships you've built along with those wins and titles."

His players also raised more than $100,000 for local charities during his tenure.

One of Langdon's proudest chapters was coaching his son, Sebastian, whom he called the most decorated male tennis player in Marcus history. Langdon coached Sebastian through two years of middle school and four years of high school.

Jeff Matlock, who coached at both Colleyville Heritage and Flower Mound High School, called Langdon the local tennis "Godfather," noting that many Grapevine-Colleyville ISD players were shaped by Langdon's TNT drill groups and private lessons. Angel Martinez, a former Grapevine High School coach and Texas Tennis Hall of Famer, called Langdon "one of the pillars in our tennis community."

Langdon built the program without an established community tennis center, meaning many of his athletes arrived at Marcus with only grassroots experience. He said the lessons he most wanted to leave with players centered on giving back to others, working hard toward goals, and togetherness.

He isn't leaving tennis entirely. Langdon owns TNT Tennis & Pickleball and said he plans to expand his private lesson schedule, continue running tournaments and camps across the Metroplex, and increase his charitable work with veteran organizations.

Garza steps in

Marcus High School announced Henry Garza as the new head tennis coach on Thursday, July 9. Garza joins the Marauders from Northwest ISD, where he served as head tennis coach at Northwest High School and, most recently, Byron Nelson High School.

The 2026-27 school year will be Garza's first season leading the program. No tryout or first-match dates have been announced.
