Thousands of Flower Mound-area students could change high schools under proposed attendance boundary maps Northwest ISD released Monday, Sept. 28.

The maps accommodate Davis High School, the district's fourth comprehensive high school, set to open in August 2027. Flower Mound-area families in the Byron Nelson High School zone have the most at stake. Davis High sits within the current Byron Nelson attendance area, and the rezoning will shift students across all four high schools, not just the new campus, according to the Flower Mound Bee.

The district's goal is to balance enrollment for the 2027-2028 school year. All three existing high schools currently enroll more than 3,000 students each against a design capacity of 3,200. Eaton High School is over capacity and stands to receive the most relief.

The proposed maps were scheduled to be posted at nisdtx.org within 24 hours of Monday's board meeting. They are a proposal, not a final decision.

The district's timeline calls for community feedback meetings at each high school in October, with a final board vote before Thanksgiving break. Specific October meeting dates have not been announced.

Residents can email feedback to [email protected]. Trustees take public comment at regular board meetings, held on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the NISD Administration Building, 2001 Texan Drive in Justin.

Davis High will open with freshmen and sophomores only. A junior class will be added in 2028-2029 and a senior class in 2029-2030. Rising juniors and seniors will not be rezoned.

Rising freshmen and sophomores rezoned to Davis High can apply to stay at their current school under certain conditions. Qualifying students include those enrolled in an academy, those on a staff transfer or those with a rising junior sibling at their current school. Students who stay will not receive district-provided transportation.

At minimum, portions of Tidwell and Worthington middle schools will feed into Davis High. Exact boundary lines within those zones are still being determined.

The school, approved in the 2023 bond election, is located off North Riverside Drive in Fort Worth near I-35 and State Highway 170. Construction began in 2025. Davis High is designed for up to 3,200 students and is named after J. Fred Davis Jr., a longtime Northwest ISD board member.

Students chose the Diamondbacks as the school mascot, with 83.5% of more than 1,000 middle school votes in May 2026. The other finalist was the Aviators. Principal Dr. Ron Myers, who led Byron Nelson High School from 2014 to 2022 before teaching school leadership at TCU, said at a Sept. 25 topping-out ceremony that the mascot "commands respect, is uniquely Texan and makes its presence known when approached."

A Transportation, Automation & Logistics Academy will open alongside Davis High in 2027. The proposed maps are expected online at nisdtx.org by Tuesday, Sept. 29.
