Valley Creek College is turning a former church building on Morriss Road into its first dedicated campus, a $7 million interior overhaul that is already underway.

The college, the higher-education arm of Valley Creek Church, filed the renovation project with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). The filing lists the building at 6101 Morriss Road as 44,861 square feet on four acres. Work began Nov. 3, 2025, with a target completion date of Nov. 2, 2026.

The project is privately funded.

Valley Creek Church acquired the property from Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church. The building sits less than a mile from the church's main campus at 5800 Long Prairie Road, where the college's 40 students attend classes.

Once finished, the campus will include a chapel, classrooms, learning labs, a café and communal spaces, according to the North Texas Sun. Outdoor plans call for a soccer field and six pickleball courts.

Valley Creek College launched in 2017 as a nine-month leadership academy for adults. It began offering four-year bachelor's degrees in 2025 through a partnership with Southeastern University, according to the North Texas Sun. Dave Scriven, president of the college, told the paper the school hopes to grow to 100 students within five years.

The Flower Mound Planning and Zoning Commission approved a site plan for the campus in January. No public hearing was required because the land's agricultural and single-family residential zoning already allows religious and institutional use.

That lack of notice caught neighbors off guard. Residents of Waterford Park Estates, the neighborhood west of Eastglen Drive, raised concerns about noise from the pickleball courts after construction started.

Brad Lanham, executive pastor of operations at Valley Creek Church, addressed those concerns at a May 2026 meeting with neighbors. "It never crossed my mind to have a conversation with you … That was an oversight on our part, and I'm sorry," Lanham said at the meeting, as reported by the North Texas Sun in August.

The church committed to raising the fence along the west side from 8 to 10 feet and installing noise-dampening material from Acoustiblok facing Eastglen Drive. The courts will be open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. for student use only, not for church members or the public.

Mayor Pro Tem Adam Schiestel, who lives in the area, also attended the May 2026 meeting.

The campus project is one of four building efforts for Valley Creek Church, which is also constructing in Argyle and has land near the University of North Texas in Denton. Whether the Morriss Road campus opens on its target schedule has not been confirmed.
